Puppy and Advanced Obedience Classes

We are excited to announce our Fall 2015 obedience classes!  The class will be taught by Jo Humphrey, of Perryton.  Jo also teaches our Puppy 101 class and therapy dog classes, and has organized the Panhandle Area Canine Therapy group, P.A.C.T.  She has experience with rally, tricks, obedience, and just about everything you can do with your dog!

AKC STAR Puppy Class

In this 6 week class, you & your puppy will learn together!  You will learn how to teach your dog to walk on a leash, sit, down, recall, and start the stay command.  They will be introduced to some obstacles and challenges as well, to make them more comfortable in all situations.  Your dog will also gain invaluable socialization, and this builds the bond between you and your pet.  We would like to have a variety of sizes and types of dogs to make things more interesting and interactive for everyone. Upon completion of the class your puppy will have earned their AKC Puppy STAR certification.  All breeds, including mutts are welcome!

Please bring soft treats or cheerios to give to your dog as a reward.  For smaller dogs a flat collar and leash is acceptable, but if your dog is larger and/or harder to control you may need to have a prong collar and your leash.  Also you should bring baggies in case you need to clean up after your pet.  There is a $150 fee for the class and all puppies must be healthy and current on their vaccinations.

The class is limited to 10 puppies, and will last 1 hour per week.  Classes will be held at the Hansford County Ag barn*.  Classes will begin on March 23 at 6:30 PM.  We will meet each Monday night for 6 weeks, finishing up on April 27, 2015  If you are interested, please call Dr. McLeod at (806) 659-2100 to get your name on the list.

AKC Canine Good Citizen Class

This is also a 6 week class, and is for older puppies that already have some basic obedience and manners.  This class is more  targeted to "finish" a dog's training and will teach them the skills needed to be a therapy dog, or be able to go most public places.  Once again, all dogs need to be on a leash with a collar, and you should bring treats to assist in the training process.

The class is limited to 10 puppies and each session will last about 1 hour.  They will also be held at the Hansford County Ag barn.  We will either hold classes on Tuesday nights (beginning October 6, 2015) or they will immediately follow the Puppy class.  If you are interested, call Dr. McLeod at (806) 659-2100 to vote for your preference.
